Edwine Alphonse

I’ve spent the last 20 years navigating the finance and accounting world across industries like fintech, AI, private equity, and technology.

My journey started at EY and PwC, where I built a solid foundation, but it was working at startups that truly shaped me. I’ve had the privilege of helping companies grow from 40 to 1000 employees, overseeing over $2 billion in equity and debt transactions, and driving revenue from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of millions. I have built multiple high-performing teams (local and international). I have built and improved financial processes and controls from nothing to being able to support growth of 4000%. I have also led many first audits and created sustainable financial foundations where startups can scale significantly over a short period.

Originally from Haiti, I lived in Canada, France, and Grand Cayman before finally settling in Boston. My experiences have shaped my career and my mission to uplift and support the next generation of accountants and entrepreneurs. I’m always looking for ways to give back, whether through advice, financial/accounting education, or board services.

What drives me is being impactful and solving problems. Accounting is the language of business (said Warren Buffet), but many still need help understanding it and identifying its impact. That’s why I started The Balanced Sheets, a newsletter where I connect accounting to real life. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, an accounting professional, or just someone trying to understand how accounting affects your day-to-day, I break it down in a simple and relatable way. I see my life as a financial statement, a simple balance sheet, where every action and non-action is inscribed in my personal ledgers. You should, too. This newsletter is my reflection using my accounting language.

When I’m not crunching numbers or mentoring founders, you’ll find me enjoying a sunset, reading, or spending time with my family. These moments remind me how important it is to balance life and work—just like a balance sheet or many balanced sheets.
